Subdeciduous, aromatic shrubs or small trees, 1 – 5 m high, armed with stout, to 1.5 cm long prickles; bark pale – brown, rough, corky; branches prickly. Leaves alternate, 10 – 15 cm long, imparipinnate; leaflets 3 – 13, 2 – 6 x 1.5 – 2.5 cm, toothed; leafstalk narrowly winged. Flowers small, 1 – 2.5 mm across, in lax 3 – 8.5 cm long, pubescent panicles. Calyx with 6 – 8 acute lobes. Petals absent. Stamens 6 – 8. Fruit 1 – 3, small, pale – red, globose or reniform, 3 – 5 mm across, aromatic and tubercled. |
