Subshrubs or herbs perennial, 1-2(-3.5) m tall; upper stems strigose. Dioecious or monoecious. Leaves broadly ovate.The species as a whole is characterized by the opposite leaves, spike like inflorescences, and fruiting perianth with a rounded base. Leaves are nearly smooth or somewhat velvety, with no stinging hairs, hence called false nettle.Plant regarded as a good fodder to cattle; bark yields strong cordage fibre. |
