Description of Species |
Evergreen or sub deciduous shrubs, 1.5 – 4 m high; branches spreading; bark red – brown, smooth. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, lanceolate or oblong – lanceolate, 4.5 – 10 x 2 – 3.5 cm, entire, base rounded, apex acuminate, pubescent on nerves beneath. Flowers orange – red, 1 – 1.5 cm long, clustered, in short panicled axillary cymes. Calyx tubular, scarlet, slightly curved widened above the month; lobes 6, 1- 1.3 cm long. Petals 6, scarlet or red, nearly equal to calyx lobes. Stamens 12, much exserted, red. Capsules ellipsoid, 8 – 10 mm long, enclosed within the calyx tube, usually tipped with persistent styles; seeds many, brown. |
