Description of Species Evergreen, unarmed, stiff shrubs; stem rigidly branched, rough, glabrous, to 3.5 m high. Leaves crowed at the end of arrested branchlets, broadly ovate or oblanceolate, 1 – 3.5 x 0.8 – 2 cm, acute, entire, dark glossy – green above. Stipules short, ovate, persistent. Flowers greenish – white or creamy – yellow, solitary, axillary, about 1.5 cm across. Calyx tube ovoid; lobes 5. Corolla tubular. Stamens 5. Ovary 2 – celled; style slender. Berries green, globose, 6 – 8 mm across, purple when ripe, usually 4 – seeded, with persistent calyx.
