Description of Species |
Deciduous shrubs or small trees, to 4 m high, with grey bark and long, stout, axillary, 1 – 2.5 m long spines. Leaves ovate – spathulate, 4.5 – 10.5 x 3 – 5 cm, cuneate at base, obtuse or subacute, pubescent or glabrous; stipules ovate, acuminate. Flowers white or cream – yellow, 1 – few, in axillary clusters, at the end of short arrested branches. Calyx tube about 3 cm long, terete; lobes 5, lanceolate. Corolla white or creamy; lobes 5, oval, spreading. Stamens 5, subsessile; with narrow anthers. Berries yellow, globose, to 2.5 cm across, slightly ribbed. |
