Distribution Throughout warmer parts of India; Myanmar, China and Japan and introduced in the tropics of several parts. Bark Details The young branches densely covered with tiny brownish or golden-coloured hairs and have numerous sharp recurved thorns. Older stems are thicker, greyish-brown in colour, and have larger thorns.

Description of Species Large, prickly climbing shrubs, up to 12 m long; prickles sharp, recurved; branches downy. Stipules semisegittate. Leaves pinnae 6 – 10 pairs; leaflets opposite, 8 – 12 pairs, ovate – oblong, glabrous above, puberulous beneath, minutely petiled. Flowers yellow, axillary or terminal racemes; bracts lanceolate, rusty tomentose. Calyx pubescent, lobes oblong or spathulate. Petals bright yellow, Stamens 10, free, much exserted; filaments woolly at the base. Ovary subsessile. Pods woody, glabrous, mottled – brown or black. Leaf Details Leaves pinnae 6 – 10 pairs; leaflets opposite, 8 – 12 pairs, ovate – oblong, glabrous above, puberulous beneath, minutely petiled.
