Description of Species |
A perennial climbing, hoary or mealy shrub, with watery sap. Stem softly-greyish or brownish, hoary when young, cylindrical, warty, lenticelled when old. Leaves broadly ovate, shortly acuminate at apex, rounded at the base, mealy especially beneath when young, more or less glabrous with age, with numerous glands at the base of the midrib on the upper surface. Flowers yellowish-green, in many-flowered, drooping, lateral, umbellate cymes; peduncles 2-3 cm long, arising from between the petioles, terete, sparingly pubescent; bracts cadusous, linear, acute puberulent; calyx pubescent outside; lobes ovate, acute, ciliolate on the mrgins; corolla rotate, puberulent outside; lobes divided ¾ way down, overlapping to the right. Fruit a follicle, rarely solitary, divaricting, velvety when mature rugosely striate and wrinkled when dry, many-seeded; seeds ovoid. |
