Perennial, deciduous climbers, with 4-angled stem and branches, recurved prickles on the angles of branches. Leaves in whorls of 4; 2 larger and 2 smaller, ovate or cordate, acute, scabrid. Flowers greenish-yellow, minute, 5-merous, in numerous widely branched, panicled cymes; calyx tube globose; lobes obsolete; corolla rotate, lobes 4-5, ovate-elliptic. Fruits globular, black or red, fleshy with red juice. |
