Description of Species |
Deciduous trees, up to 18 m high, usually with buttresses from the base of stem and blusih – grey bark. Leaves oblong – orbicular, or suborbicular – ovate, obtuse or acute, entire, base truncate – obtuse or subcordate, lateral nerves 6 – 8 pairs; stipules large, obovate, membranous, often pale – pink, caducous. Flowers white or creamish – yellow, in axillary or terminal, globose, pedunculate heads; heads solitary or 2 – 3 together; peduncles subtended with a pair of foliaceous bracts. Calyx limb short, minutely 5 – toothed. Corolla funnel – shaped. Ovary 2 – celled; style filiform, exserted; stigma elongate. Capsules 100 – 150 in each head, each splitting into 2 – dehiscent cocci; seeds minute, several, winged. |
