Evergreen, shrubs or trees,up to 10 m high, armed with simple or branched thorns. Leaves oblong – ovate, 4.5 – 11 x 2.2. – 3.5 cm, acuminate, serrate, glabrous, minutely glabrescent along midrib. Petioles 4 – 7 mm long. Flowers greenish white, 2 – 3 mm across, few in bracteate racemes or corymbs. Sepals 4(5), subsequal. Female flowers .Ovary flask – shaped to subglobose. Style 4 – 6. Berries subglobose, 2 – 2.3 cm long, obovoid, dark purple when ripe |
